Subjuntivo variado (nivel avanzado)

Duration: 5:01 Published: 4 May 2022

After two years of teaching only online because of the pandemic, the Tilde Madrid school opened its doors again. In this video Pilar shows the school, and you have a task: note down every subjunctive you hear.

Key points

  • Listening task: write down all the subjunctive forms you hear and think about why each one is used.
  • Typical triggers of the subjunctive: wishes (ojalá, quiero que), feelings (me alegra que), purpose (para que) and the future with cuando (cuando vengas).
  • The video presents the school in the centre of Madrid after its reopening in 2022.

Frequent doubts

Why cuando vengas and not cuando vienes?

Because cuando refers to the future here, and Spanish time clauses about the future take the subjunctive: Cuando vengas a Madrid, visítanos.

Does para que always take the subjunctive?

If the subject is the same, use para + infinitive: Estudio para aprender.

How can I practise the subjunctive with videos?

Watch once for the general meaning, then again with pauses to note each subjunctive and the word or expression that triggers it.
