Frequent doubts

Why “Se avisó a la policía” in the singular?

Because a la policía is a direct object introduced by a: the sentence has no subject, so the verb stays in the singular.

Can I use se with ser and estar?

Yes, in impersonal sentences: Se está mejor en la playa, Se es feliz con poco.

What is the difference with the pasiva refleja?

In the pasiva refleja the verb agrees with a thing (Se venden coches). In the impersonal se there is no subject and the verb is always singular.
